The course focuses on strengthening the full monitoring cycle - from defining clear objectives, to selecting appropriate methods, collecting and analysing data, and communicating findings in ways that support informed decision-making. Learners will engage with applied examples and realistic scenarios that reflect the complex environmental and social contexts in which reef monitoring takes place.

1. Define your monitoring goals.
2. Select appropriate data types and collection methodologies to meet your monitoring goals.
3. Collect data and information using methodologies and approaches outlined in the course.
4. Interpret and communicate the findings to relevant stakeholders in line with monitoring goals.
5. Appreciate the value of and be able to integrate data from both scientific and traditional sources to strengthen coral reef monitoring and conservation.
6. Where appropriate, apply a gender and inclusion lens when planning data collection and interpreting and communicating results.
