Premier of Malaita Province Supports Coral Reef Rescue Initiative, Solomon Islands
"Honiara, Solomon Islands – 3rd December 2024– The Premier of Malaita Province, Honorable Elijah Asilau MPA, has welcomed the proactive steps taken by the government, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and stakeholders to conduct studies on coral and marine ecosystems and implement the coral reef rescue project within the province. This initiative is part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project, “Coral Reef Rescue (CRR): Resilient Coral Reefs, Resilient Communities Project.”"

Empowering Communities, Strengthening Reefs: Uniting voices for coral conservation in Fiji
WCS recently hosted a three-day workshop in Labasa, bringing together community leaders, government officials, and NGOs to strengthen coral reef conservation efforts. Participants explored current policies, shared Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), and collaboratively developed strategies to enhance reef resilience. The workshop emphasized community-driven solutions and the integration of local voices into national conservation strategies.
